With
an eclectic mix of instruments and alternative musical
styles, the Seattle-area band 669’s release, Touch
the Sky, is an engaging listen pretty much from start to
finish. This isn’t your typical Northwest rock band:
their sound, which includes electric violin and female backing
vocals, at times seems reminiscent of the Welsh folk/rock
of Richard and Mary Thompson.
But
there’s
a definite pop feel to this one, with nice melodies and
soothing guitar play throughout the album. The lyrics are
expressive, often exploring romantic, social and spiritual
themes. Listening to this album is a pleasant experience,
indeed.
