Resistor is
a very strong album of acoustic guitar-driven tunes that
highlight Rosales’ excellent
musicianship with an array of guitar styles that never
fail to engage the listener. His voice is smooth and commanding
enough to accentuate his fine guitar work, though the couple
instrumentals here are interesting in their own right.
While
some of the tunes (mostly due to the vocals) echo popular
artists like Dave Matthews or Counting Crows, the best
work here occurs during the album’s jam bits, like during the title track, when
Rosales lets his guitar—with first-rate bass accompaniment—do
the talking. His style is reminiscent of the late great
Michael Hedges. Rosales is a little more bluesy and standard,
but very refreshing nonetheless.
