Celtic Meltdown by Blue on Green is a convergence
of quality blues-rock with the kind of music played
from high on the moor. It includes originals,
covers and new takes on traditional Celtic folk tunes. The
album radiates an eclectic flavor: the sounds of flutes
and saxophones and an upright bass mix with soaring
leads of electric guitar.
Rob Wullenjohn is Blue on Green’s lead guitarist
and vocalist. His strong guitar playing chops
are evident throughout, but his vocal skills are more
hit and miss. Some of the tracks have a highly
psychedelic quality, and the Celtic tradition seems
to welcome the electricity that Blue on Green brings
to the proceedings. One of the covers, Pride
of Man, a Quicksilver Messenger Service tune if memory
serves, sounds as fresh as ever.
