Cotton’s album, Small White Town, opens
with a bang. “Devil in Disguise” sounds like
a Bad Company album with Bonnie Raitt at the helm, and “Fast” carries
powerful blues-rock riffs as well, the kind made famous
by bands from the Motor City. But
there’s more than solid rockers here.
The album
contains more than a few soulful ballads and “Take
My Heart” includes gospel-like backing vocals.
Regardless of tempo and style, however, Cotton’s
pipes are clearly evident, and she can belt the words
out with the raw fervor of the best blues and rock singers.
