I
wish I could say a cliché phrase like,
“the music speaks for itself.” It does! But I can’t leave
it at that. Jeff Laine has renamed the songwriting book for
songwriters; it’s called Long Way To Go. This album stands
out, and I have a good feeling about this guy. Other than
the fact that he HAS played with everybody (and their dog)
at some point or another, he’s got a natural energy in his
songs that keep you driving, or keep you from touching your
CD player…let it spin!
I heard influence from a few of the people he has played
with. There were sounds of Johnny Cash, Dylan, Nelson, and
Chris Rea. At the same time, I could sense a real direction
of his personal flavor. A very well written and produced
album! It's nice to hear roots of true songwriting still
alive. Don’t be surprised if you see this album listened
to by people of all ages. If you’re a singer-songwriter,
you have to check this out. It’ll make you want to write
again!
