Polka’s not dead, folks! Not if LynnMarie and
the Boxhounds have anything to say about it. With perkily
programmed percussion and an irrepressible smile, LynnMarie
polka-fies the worlds of rock and country with accordion-happy
renditions of such classics as “Oh,
Lonesome Me,” “Stuck in the Middle with
You,” and of course, The Who’s “Squeeze
Box.” The album opens with a toe-tappin’ version
of “Happy Feet” as sweet as movie-house
Cracker Jacks, sure to get both you and your little
one off your seat. The entire album is a fun, Cleveland-meets-San
Antone’ romp with a twinge of old-worldliness,
as there’s an occasional lapse into Slovenian
language lyric and chit-chat. It’s wholesome
and family-friendly from start to finish – even
the bouncy, upbeat cover of “No Beer Today.” Rally ‘round
the barbeque, bring the kids, and don’t forget
your waltzin’ shoes to go with LynnMarie’s Party
Dress.
