Future Perfect is
a polished work of skillfully crafted pop music. Give
this disc a spin and you’ll be shaking “it” (or
at least snapping your fingers) in no time at all. NYC-based
Michelangelo wrote all the tracks, and performs lead
vocals and keyboard work. His band is equally adept and
the playing is tight.
The
pace slows on a few numbers in the middle of the album,
such as the ballads “Crazy Girl” and “Linger.” Michelangelo
has a smooth voice, which works equally well with Jamiroquai-type
funk or with bluesier numbers. Some of the keyboard parts
and songwriting, too, touch upon the jazz-rock quality
Steely Dan made so famous. Michelangelo is ably keeping
such music alive.
