Rap and Country aren’t my favorite music genres
by a long shot, but the way the Moonshine Bands inject
the styles along with shades of Rock, Hip Hop and R & B
gives their brand of music a fresh sound. The band
members are self-proclaimed “White Boys” from
the “West Coast/CenCal,” and are joined on
their 16-track effort Prohibition by a cadre of
simpatico talent, including Danny Boone of Rehab and Jay
Tee of N2Deep.
The Moonshine Bandits lay claim to their turf on many
of album’s tunes, tracks like “Hometown,” “California
Hoedown” and an alternate take on the Skynryd classic,
which they’ve titled “Sweet Home California.” Another
theme, of course, is drinking. And hard drinking and
living get major props, and Prohibition lends
itself well as party music. But some of the songs—like “Moonshine”—are
surprisingly smooth and tempered, showing the Moonshine
Bandits aren’t just all bravado.
