The Muckrakers have a pleasing sound. And Front
of the Parade is full of catchy, foot-tapping
tunes that will stay with you. On the album,
the band (which hails from Louisville, KY) plays
it relatively safe. They’ve comfortably
situated themselves among the Adult Alternative genre
set.
The musicianship and vocal parts are strong throughout,
though it must be said that the songs tend to write
themselves after a while. “Breathe In,
Breath Out,” “Hold On,” and many
others move along briskly, but with choruses and formulaic
changes far too banal. Still, Front of the
Parade exhibits the Muckraker’s potential
once they break out of their mold of predictability.
