In the Red, the first full-length album by
Denmark’s Tina Dico, is more melancholy and deliberately
paced than typical singer/songwriter releases. Indeed,
Dico, who appears on Zero 7’s When it Falls,
lists Leonard Cohen among her influences, and many
of the songs feature minor keys for which her voice
is well suited.
Songs like the title, track, “Use Me” and “Losing” portray
a sense of longing, of loves gained and lost. Overall, In
the Red features well crafted tunes with a nice
mix of modern pop, rock and folk melodies and rousing
choruses. And Dico’s haunting vocals are
the perfect vehicle to carry them along every note
of the way.
