About:
New and different, she is a "triple threat": can play, sing and write as good as any. Some consider her better than most. Her songs are eclectic and catchy. Paula is a charismatic performer with a world-class band.

Paula Maya takes the concept of eclecticism in songwriting to a new level, mixing elements of her diverse music background: jazz, world, electronica, Latin, and classical, with rock. And her band adds to the recipe with a bluesy, funky feel, making a very original sound. The more you listen to her songs, the more they pull you in. Her music can be described as Eclectic Rock (PJ Harvey, Kate Bush, Bjork, Santana).

Maya came to the United States from Rio de Janeiro to pursue her recording career. In Brazil she attended the Brazilian Federal University of Music, studying classical piano, and played with several jazz and dance orquestras, and pop and rock groups. In 1998, after moving to Seattle, began working with renowned drummer Ben Smith (Heart), who produced her EP Resurrection 1st Half, released independently in 2000. She also became Maestro David Kyle’s voice student, until he past.

Right away Resurrection 1st Half got the attention of a new label in Seattle, Yellow House Records, and Resurrection (the full length) was recorded and released in 2003. The title track is featured in the movie The Learning Curve, and is getting international airplay.

Her band has been together since 1999, including Ben Smith(Heart), guitarist Pat Hewitt(Doug Kershaw) and bassist Dave Pascal(Diane Schurr). They were nominated for the 2005 Seattle Weekly  Music Awards. Some festivals Paula Maya and her band have performed at are: Bumbershoot -Seattle, Everett Water Front Series, Texas Jazz Festival, Pig Out In The Park-Spokane, Taste of Tacoma, Hempfest -Seattle, WA University Street Fair, and many more.
